Ghost Taxi Passenger
This is a story about a ghost taxi passenger. I know there are lots of Ghost Taxi Passenger stories out there, and frankly, this is one of them. It happened quite long ago, before I was born. Around 1967. This story was told to me by my mom.
There was a taxi driver and he was working late one night. He had a customer, a lady, who just finished watching a movie and wanted to go home. The pay was 4 bucks. The lady paid him right up.
OK, the next morning, the taxi driver''s wife yelled at him. He yelled back, "What's the matter?" and his wife told him that she found 4
hell notes in his pocket. He thought hard, trying to figure out how the hell notes got into his pocket and in the end, he remembered about the lady passenger from the previous night who paid him 4 bucks. He shivered in fear and according to my mom, the story was also in the newspapers.
Apparently, word has it that the lady died before watching her favorite movie and her ghost went to the theatre to watch it.
This is quite unsettling. I once had the honor (or dishonor) of having to come home in a taxi way past midnight, where the driver hardly spoke or even looked normal.
I just gave him instructions to my place, he grunted and kept staring ahead all through the 2-hour drive.
He barely blinked, but I could sense that he was frowning, angry about something and making guttural, throaty sounds throughout. He was holding the wheel too tight and his hands seemed bloodless white.
I thought of getting down midway and walking back home, but seeing the empty streets, I carried along with the ride. That was one disturbing driver and a freakish night!
